Foundations for Successful Philanthropy
Creating a culture of philanthropy is fundamental to a successful fundraising program at your organization and in your community. This is achieved by educating each person at your institution about their role so they may participate effectively in creating this environment.

Grant:
PSI is offering schools the opportunity to apply for a three-phase academy development program. The first year a $10,000 grant will be given to help establish the components for a successful fundraising program. The second and third years will move schools to the next level by establishing a full-fledged academy program. A $15,000 grant will be awarded upon each year’s successful completion of program requirements.

These objectives will be fulfilled through training, resources and on-site support by PSI.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Principal must attend the PSI Conference on Philanthropy and Leadership Symposium (scholarships available).
  • School must have at least 10 years of graduating classes.
  • Must have a volunteer or a staff member committed to spending a minimum of two days a week (16 hours) .
  • Must commit to buying, installing and supporting a fundraising database.
  • The Principal must agree to attend initial training hosted by PSI .
  • The Principal and Conference president (school board chair) must commit to attend a half-day training session together coordinated with the NAD Year End Meetings.
  • The board must participate in PSI sponsored trainings on-site.
  • The school/board must ensure their financial commitment to program.
  • The principal/board chair must agree to all program components.

Program Components
  • Principal attends Conference on Philanthropy and Leadership Symposium.
  • Attend 5 hour course on-site at Conference on Philanthropy for principals.
  • PSI staff will visit each school to assist with: Volunteer/staff training for database, create direct mail appeal and assisting with mailing process, Initiate board training and annual campaigns, and establish a cultivation plan for school.
  • Principal to attend the Presidents’ Symposium at the NAD Year End meetings .
  • Principal and Conference president will attend a 4 hour training session following NAD year-end meetings.
  • PSI staff will visit each school to assist with: Donor visit with board chair and PSI staff, board training session with full board, evaluate first mailing.
  • PSI will oversee submission of CAE.
  • PSI will oversee submission of quarterly reports.
  • PSI will host 2 conference calls with principals.
  • Evaluate the potential for recruiting, hiring and training a development director for years 2 and 3 of the program.
  • PSI will give each participating school a $10,000 grant to assist with associated program costs which will be distributed at the end of the school year when all program objectives are completed.
  • Additional funding should come from the school’s budget and may be secured with the assistance of private donors, Union and/or Conference.
